Brewery Merch Ideas: Beyond the Logo Tee
By The Merch Counter team · Updated · 3 min read

Brewery merch sells because people who love beer wear their favorite breweries' shirts to other breweries. Start with a classic logo tee, an embroidered hat and a beanie or hoodie, then add designs built from your best label art and limited shirts for release days and anniversaries.

Note: our catalog doesn't include glassware, so this list focuses on apparel and accessories.
The essentials
1. The logo tee. Still the best seller. A strong logo on a dark or heathered shirt. Example: $30, you earn $12 †.
2. The embroidered hat. A dad cap or trucker style with a small logo. Example: $32, you earn $10.60 †.
3. The beanie. For patio season and cold-weather towns. Example: $30, you earn $11 †.
4. The hoodie. For the people at the patio heaters in October. Example: $55, you earn $20 †.
Designs from your beers
5. Label-art shirts. Your best label art makes great shirt art — you already paid for it. If a freelancer drew it, check you own the rights, not just the label: a copyright transfer has to be in writing.
6. The flagship shirt. A shirt for the beer everyone orders.
7. The tap list tee. Your core beers as a typographic list, like a menu board.
Limited and event shirts
8. Release-day shirts. Available only for a week around a big release. Fans collect these.
9. Anniversary shirts. "5 years" with the year printed on the sleeve or back.
10. Seasonal designs. Oktoberfest, summer patio, winter warmer.
Small things
11. Stickers. Cheap, and plenty of beer drinkers stick them on coolers and laptops.
12. A tote. For carrying cans home.
Why it sells in a taproom
People who love beer visit taprooms on trips, swap stories about the breweries they've been to, and wear the shirt as proof. A good brewery shirt starts conversations at other taprooms, which is advertising you don't pay for.
You also have something most businesses don't: a steady supply of new artwork. Every can and label is a design you've already commissioned, and many of them would look great on a shirt.
Design directions that work
- Label art, adapted. Take the illustration from your best-loved label and lose the legal text and the can shape. Let the art stand on its own.
- Vintage and workwear styles. Faded prints, heathered shirts, a small chest logo with a large back print.
- Your town. "Brewed in [town]" or your coordinates under the logo. Visitors buy these as souvenirs.
- Inside jokes. The name regulars use for your patio, the brewer's dog, the beer that sold out in an hour.
- Typography. A tap-list design in your menu board's font looks great and costs little to design.

Launch it alongside a beer
- Pick a release. Launch your merch with a new beer, so one post and one event announce both.
- Order samples a couple of weeks ahead, so your bar staff can wear them on release day.
- Put a QR code on the bar, the table tents and the tap list, where people look while deciding what to order.
- Post the label art and the shirt side by side, in the same post as the beer.
- Follow up with photos of regulars in the shirt over the next week.
Common questions
Can I put my beer names on shirts?
Yes, if they're your own names and artwork. Avoid anything that borrows another brand's logo, characters or trademarked phrases.
Can I sell glassware?
Not through The Merch Counter today; our catalog doesn't include glassware. Many breweries keep glassware in the taproom and sell apparel online.
Can I make a design just for mug-club members?
You can make one, but you can't lock it to members: there are no hidden products or member codes, so anyone who finds your shop can buy it. Treat it as an honor system. Announce it to members first and name it for them ("Mug Club 2026"), and most people will respect that.
